Join Andrea Piller for a 6 week course on ceramic hand building techniques using red earthenware clay. Ceramics have a long tradition in the garden as a container or to simply delight the eye. Earthenware can be used to make bells, pots, birds or any other sculptural pieces you can imagine! Andrea will guide participants through form-making techniques such as pinch, coil and slab to make what you envision come to life. Learning the basics of functional vessel forms and sculptural pieces, attendees will enhance their garden landscape and passion for growing plants (whether indoor or outdoor). All materials are provided, no experience necessary.

Please Note: The County Arts Lab is moving! As of March 29th classes will take place across the hall in unit 1E of the Armoury. Access to this unit is from the outside of the building, at the rear of the building on the side nearest to the library.

Meet Andrea! Andrea Piller's sculptural hand built ceramic works are ongoing investigations of natural form that evoke a primitive quality, aiming to synthesize the organic world and human experience. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Andrea is the recipient of numerous art awards and Ontario Arts Council grants, and her work is shown nationally and internationally. As a mentor and artist educator, she is passionate about sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge for visual arts and creative fluency: "I try to imbue what I believe is essential in all of us, that which connects us to the world; a courage to create on a personal level and challenge the imagination. Finding this is often a life journey. Sharing this is a joy."

Art supply fee - Please note that the cost of supplies is not included in the course fee; this amount depends on the course, and will be automatically added to your total. If this cost is prohibitive for you, please contact Andrea at [email protected] before registering to make alternative arrangements.

Offline registration - We prefer to take payment and registration through this form, but if you are not comfortable with this option and it is more than 2 weeks before the course begins, please check the "Offline" box in the Billing Information section below. We will contact you with alternative payment options. Payment must be received at least one week before the course begins.

Processing fee - This covers transaction and ticketing fees. We've decided to use Regfox, the most affordable ticketing platform we could find, which will collectively save our participants over $1000 in processing fees per year.

Policies and Waivers - We've included these as part of the registration process (thank you for your patience!) to save some paperwork on your end and get straight to art making when we are in person!

  • We encourage those who are able to pay a little more to choose this price ($20/hr). By doing so, you are helping build a community that prioritizes access to the arts for all, and allowing us to cover more of our operating costs, which include Artist Instructor fees, rent, and more.

  • This price ($15/hr) allows us to cover most of the costs of running the course.

  • This price ($10/hr) is available to those who find the other two options too high for their household.
