Increase your mental, physical, and creative well-being with Creative Movement for Adults! Artist Instructor Catelyn Thornton will guide participants in a range of activities aimed at bolstering their physical and mental health while engaging their imagination, broadening their understanding of the artistic elements of movement, and connecting with others in a fun, low-pressure environment. Focusing on key movement elements (shape, space, time, and dynamics/energy) and techniques (balance, flexibility, strength, coordination, rhythm, alignment/posture, and kinesthetic awareness), the course will provide participants with a toolkit of enjoyable strategies for improving mental cognition, minimizing and managing stress, and supporting their physical health. No experience necessary; all you need is a desire to be active, social, and have creative fun!

A note for those who attended the Fall 2022 Creative Movement course - Catelyn is planning all new creative activities for the Spring 2023 edition, so feel free to join us again for some new challenges!

Meet Catelyn! In addition to performing as a dance and theatre artist for many years, Catelyn Thornton taught with the Toronto District School Board for 25 years, heading up the Arts Department at R.H. King Academy in Scarborough. During her tenure, Catelyn forged partnerships with government, businesses, arts organizations, and the community to bring a host of new arts programs to the school. She holds a Bachelor of Education in Dance and Drama from Victoria State College (Melbourne) and a Masters in Fine Arts - Theatre from York University. Catelyn is passionate about creating spaces where people can openly and safely connect with their creative side, and loves doing just that with her County Arts Lab Creative Movement participants!

Offline registration - We prefer to take payment and registration through this form, but if you are not comfortable with this option and it is more than 2 weeks before the course begins, please check the "Offline" box in the Billing Information section below. We will contact you with alternative payment options. Payment must be received at least one week before the course begins.

Processing fee - This covers transaction and ticketing fees. We've decided to use Regfox, the most affordable ticketing platform we could find, which will collectively save our participants over $1000 in processing fees per year.

Policies and Waivers - We've included these as part of the registration process (thank you for your patience!) to save some paperwork on your end and get straight to creating when we are in person!

  • We encourage those who are able to pay a little more to choose this price ($20/hr). By doing so, you are helping build a community that prioritizes access to the arts for all, and allowing us to cover more of our operating costs, which include Artist Instructor fees, rent, and more.

  • This price ($15/hr) allows us to cover most of the costs of running the course.

  • This price ($10/hr) is available to those who find the other two options too high for their household.
