Join Comedians Lenny Epstein and Gavin North for this super fun Improv for Kids course! Students will learn all about the art of comedy and how improv works to create silly situations that make people laugh. Working in larger groups and smaller teams the kids will explore and play with theatre games, and all kinds of interactive activities. Students will get to try out performing for each other and will work together to create fully improvised final performance for the parents (and parents may be asked to participate!).

Please Note: The County Arts Lab is moving upstairs! As of February 5th classes will take place in unit 2E of the Picton Armoury (Main Street level). The most convenient access is through the Main Street entrance, but you can also enter through the back/Mary St. entrance and use the interior stairs to reach the main floor (please note there is no elevator in the Armoury). There is one accessible parking spot at the corner of Main and Ross streets across from The Regent Theatre.

Meet Lenny and Gavin! Performing as a pair since 2018, Lenny Epstein and Gavin North promise audiences a hilarious duo dynamic and well-crafted, smart, alternative comedy. They draw on their experience in improv, sketch, stand up, and theatre performance to deliver genuine laughs and unexpected surprises. In 2022 they launched their giant puppet project to take their comedy to new heights. Affectionately known as Tall Attention Spa, the giant, handmade puppets of Lenny and Gavin are worn by themselves and perform at street festivals, parks, or at indoor venues (with high ceilings!)

Gavin and Lenny have presented their work on stage and screen at The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, Mprov, Big City Improv, Comedy Country Festival, and Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival. They have opened for Kevin Nealon, Scott Thompson and Bruce McCulloch of Kids in the Hall), Martha Chaves, Jon Blair, Flo and Joan, and more!

Offline registration - We prefer to take payment and registration through this form, but if you are not comfortable with this option and it is more than 2 weeks before the course begins, please check the "Offline" box in the Billing Information section below. We will contact you with alternative payment options. Payment must be received at least one week before the course begins.

Processing fee - This covers transaction and ticketing fees. We've decided to use Regfox, the most affordable ticketing platform we could find, which will collectively save our participants over $1000 in processing fees per year.

Policies and Waivers - We've included these as part of the registration process (thank you for your patience!) to save some paperwork on your end and get straight to art making on day one!

  • We encourage those who are able to pay a little more to choose this price ($20/hr). By helping us subsidize the costs of offering a sliding scale fee system, you are helping build a community that prioritizes access to the arts for all. This price also allows us to cover more of our operating costs, which include Artist Instructor fees, rent, and more.

  • This price ($15/hr) allows us to cover most of the costs of running the course.

  • This price ($10/hr) is available to those who find the other two options too high for their household.

Please note: Participants in this course are not required to wear a mask, though your child is welcome to wear one, and we will have some extras on hand. Please ensure that your child passes the Symptom Screening before coming, and that they wear a mask if they've experienced symptoms within the past 10 days as per Ontario government guidance. Please get in touch with Stacey Sproule ([email protected]) if you have any concerns or questions.
