County Arts is thrilled to partner with the Municipality through the new Public Art Program to present a series of workshops aimed at providing artists with opportunities to build skills to aid in the creation of Public Artworks. County Arts is the County’s Public Art Program Administrator and as we plan our commissions and first few projects we are offering these workshops to prepare artists to respond to future open calls.

In this hands-on workshop, join artist Jamie Janx Johnston to learn all about murals from the design process to the final wall. Jamie will define the various roles and complexities in the world of mural production. Participants will acquire the problem solving skills to address every angle of mural production, including a hands-on site evaluation component in small groups.

- Wall evaluation, including common challenges and solutions
- Techniques and best practices for prepping a wall
- Materials selection and considerations, including overviews of spray paint and exterior latex or oil-based paint and when each would be used
- Understanding sketching techniques for varied surfaces
- Overview of equipment commonly used, such as ladders, scissor lifts, cherry pickers and scaffolding, discussion of safety considerations
- Techniques for scaling your work
