In this full day workshop join silk screen artist Yasmine Louis in learning the basics of silk screen printing. In this hands-on class participants will learn about the process in the morning, and will have the opportunity to experiment after lunch with printing images on paper, fabric, and anything else they would like to bring with them. Yasmine will provide screens and all necessary equipment. We will provide you with some paper and fabrics, but bring your own materials to make something more personal! You can bring clothing (new or up-cycle something old), napkins, tea towels, wood panels, journals, etc. Note: whatever you choose needs to be paper, fabric or wood, and must lay totally flat when on a table to be printed.

Please wear clothes that are comfortable and can get dirty. Printing can get a bit messy, especially when you're getting creative! Since this is a full day workshop, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes since you may be standing for long periods, and feel free to either bring a lunch (we have a fridge and a microwave) or purchase lunch from our Armoury neighbours Luso Bites! The Lunch break will be 45 minutes.

Please Note: The County Arts Lab is moving! As of March 29th classes will take place across the hall in unit 1E of the Armoury. Access to this unit is from the outside of the building, at the rear of the building on the side nearest to the library.

Meet Yasmine! Yasmine Louis is a francophone silkscreen artist based in Toronto. Through the years, she has gained a notable reputation in Toronto’s applied art scene and more recently in the visual art field. She has featured her silkscreen printed products and clothing in the largest arts and craft shows across Canada and the U.S. She was commissioned on three separate occasions to create distinct limited-edition signed shirts for the Art Gallery of Ontario. In addition, 13 of her silkscreen prints on paper are part of the City of Toronto’s Art Collection. In the past few years, she has taken her work in many directions, exploring different techniques and art forms, including public art and site-specific installations.

She has previously held residencies and exhibitions at the Harbourfront Textile Studio inCanada, the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists in Iceland, the Amsterdams Grafisch Atelier in the Netherlands and Hangar Artistic Research Center in Portugal. She has been therecipient of creation grants by the Ontario Arts Council and have sat on multiple juries.

In 2019, she was inducted in the One Of A Kind Show Hall of Fame (OOAK). The Toronto OOAK is the largest arts and crafts exhibition in Canada. Each year the show inducts one artist among over 800 who “excels in their medium, creating works that are exceptional both in their construction and in their level of creativity.”

Art supply fee - Please note that the cost of supplies is not included in the course fee; this amount depends on the course, and will be automatically added to your total. If this cost is prohibitive for you, please contact Stacey at [email protected] before registering to make alternative arrangements.

Offline registration - We prefer to take payment and registration through this form, but if you are not comfortable with this option and it is more than 2 weeks before the course begins, please check the "Offline" box in the Billing Information section below. We will contact you with alternative payment options. Payment must be received at least one week before the course begins.

Processing fee - This covers transaction and ticketing fees. We've decided to use Regfox, the most affordable ticketing platform we could find, which will collectively save our participants over $1000 in processing fees per year.

Policies and Waivers - We've included these as part of the registration process (thank you for your patience!) to save some paperwork on your end and get straight to art making when we are in person!

  • We encourage those who are able to pay a little more to choose this price ($20/hr). By doing so, you are helping build a community that prioritizes access to the arts for all, and allowing us to cover more of our operating costs, which include Artist Instructor fees, rent, and more.

  • This price ($15/hr) allows us to cover most of the costs of running the course.

  • This price ($10/hr) is available to those who find the other two options too high for their household.
